EMMAUS MUJERES
The Spanish, women group of Emmaus are the responsible for the preparation and execution of our Women’s Emmaus Retreats.
Our Lady Queen of Peace offers an Emmaus Retreat in Spanish for women every year. The Emmaus Retreat is an experience of three days (Friday to Sunday) where participants have a profound encounter with Christ. Inspired on the Scripture passage about the “Road to Emmaus” (Lk. 24:13-35), the retreat provides an opportunity to experience Christ’s salvific love as He walks with us from Emmaus back to Jerusalem.
The first Emmaus Retreat was done in Miami, Florida in 1978. It was first done in English by a group of lay women from Saint Louis Parish in Kendall; this initiative was an inspiration of the Holy Spirit who used Fr. David G. Russell and the DRE of the parish, Myrna Gallagher, to plan, execute and evaluate the first Emmaus Retreat.
Currently, the Emmaus Retreat is present in many countries. Fr. Javier Bustos, our Pastor, brought this retreat in Spanish to the Midwest in 2003; subsequently, Fr. Javier and a group of lay men and women, brought the Emmaus Retreat to Mexico.
The first Emmaus Retreat at Our Lady Queen of Peace was celebrated in 2017, when Fr. Javier Bustos took the leadership of the parish.
Our next Emmaus Retreat in Spanish for women will be on: February 26-28, 2021
